It seems that the reach and wealth of South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC or African National Congress has no end. Recent revelations come as a shock to many that the ANC owns the controlling stake in investment corporation Thebe Investments which was founded in 1992 by Batho Batho Trust as an ANC investment company.
Thebe Investment Coporation today owns shares in some of South Africa’s largest and most sought after companies including Vodacom, Shell SA Refinery, Altech Netstar, Kaya FM and Combined Motor Holdings to name a few. The official declaration to date is that the Batho Batho Trust beneficiaries are historically disadvantaged individuals. This does put the Hitachi / Chancellor House debacle in perspective and the millions the ANC stand to make in this deal.
